David Talbot Wilson is known for his highly specialist and detailed paintings of boats, including racing yachts, sailing club class boats, working boats and historic navel craft. He is especially interested in painting the big classic racing yachts of yesteryear. His work looks like oil on canvas but is mainly acrylic though he uses all other mediums.
David studied drawing and painting and technical illustration at the Liverpool Collage of Art in the fifties, but has been painting seriously since retiring from running his own advertising agency in 1992.
His work is exhibited widely and sells not only here in the North West but also in Scotland, Switzerland and America. He is a prominent committee member of the National Exhibition of Wildlife Art (NEWA), currently Vice Chairman of the Deeside Art Group (DAG) and is an honorary life member of the Liverpool Artists Club. And in sailing he is President of the Nobby Owners Association (a Nobby is the nickname of the Morecombe Bay Prawner, a local shrimping boat).
David undertakes many commissions from formal portraits to paintings of people and pets to paintings of private yachts & dinghies, naval vessels both historic and modern, scenes of wildlife, landscapes and the moods of the sea.
